Construction of a section of the Latvian–Russian border fence completed in Balvi region

Construction work on one of the three border fence sections under our supervision has been completed according to schedule. Progress on the remaining two sections continues as planned, including works in a marshland area, where a floating support system manufactured in Latvia is being installed. Construction work on these sections will be completed by the end of the year,” says Juris Frīdmanis, chairman of the board at SIA Nordes Būve. The company is also continuing fence construction works on another section in Balvi region, where fence elements have already been installed along an approximately 11 km stretch. Temporary fencing is being erected in culvert (dip) areas, and barbed wire installation is ongoing.

In the marshland area of Ludza region, installation of floating fence support systems is progressing. Currently, supports have been installed along an almost two-kilometre stretch, with a total planned length of 2.24 kilometres.

SIA Nordes Būve won the contract to carry out fence construction works in the Balvi and Ludza regions, covering a total length of 25 km. According to the contract terms, the works are scheduled for completion by the end of this year.

The client for the construction of the Latvian–Russian border fence is VAS Valsts nekustamie īpašumi (State Real Estate Agency).

Implementation of the eastern border infrastructure project is supervised by the External Border Infrastructure Construction Supervision Committee, which includes representatives from the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economics, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, the State Border Guard, the State Agency for Supply, Latvian State Radio and Television Center, Latvian State Forests, the Latvian Geospatial Information Agency, and the National Armed Forces.
