Construction of the railway contact network on the Zasulauks–Bolderāja section and modernisation of electrified lines

2/10/2025

Construction and modernisation works have commenced on the Zasulauks–Bolderāja section of the electrified railway network, as well as infrastructure renewal on the Riga–Zemitāni and Riga–Sloka electrified lines. The works are being implemented within the framework of the project “Modernisation and Development of the Electrified Railway Network.” The project involves the reconstruction or construction of a total of 100 km of contact network and signaling subsystems, gradually expanding the electrified railway network and replacing technically obsolete systems with modern, sustainable solutions. Following the completion of the design phase, the project has now entered the active construction stage, covering several strategically significant railway sections in and around Riga.

The works' scope includes:
– reconstruction of the contact network and signaling subsystems on the Riga Passenger–Zemitāni section (including Brasa)
– construction and reconstruction of the contact network on the Zasulauks–Bolderāja section
– reconstruction of the contact network and signalling subsystems on the Imanta–Sloka section

The project aims to strengthen emission-free public railway infrastructure, promote sustainable mobility, and reduce the environmental impact of public transport.

The client is VAS Latvijas dzelzceļš. The project is being implemented on a design-and-build basis by the general partnership Nordes Būve & BCC, comprising SIA Nordes Būve and SIA Baltic Construction Company.

Completion of the project is scheduled for 2026.
