Eastern border fence construction launched on schedule

In accordance with the planned schedule, SIA Nordes Būve has commenced construction of the Latvian–Russian border fence in Balvi County. Installation of fence posts and fence panels is currently underway, with the first 1,000 metres already completed.
The next stage of works will include the installation of barbed wire and access gates. In marshland areas, the fence will be constructed using concrete pontoon structures specifically manufactured for this project in Latvia by SIA LT Betons and SIA Skonto Prefab.
SIA Nordes Būve was awarded the contract to carry out fence construction works in the Balvi and Ludza districts, covering a total length of 25 km. According to the contract terms, the works are scheduled for completion by the end of this year.
The client for the construction of the Latvian–Russian border fence is VAS Valsts nekustamie īpašumi.
Implementation of the eastern border infrastructure project is overseen by the External Border Infrastructure Construction Supervisory Committee, which includes representatives from the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economics, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, the State Border Guard, the State Agency for Supply, Latvian State Radio and Television Center, Latvian State Forests, the Latvian Geospatial Information Agency, and the National Armed Forces.
